Delegates
Sebastian Dengler (Head Delegate)
21 years old, 6th Semester, Management, Philosophy & Economics
Interests: Debating about all kinds of topics, singing, sports, dancing (Tango/Salsa), travelling around, or just having a good time with my friends.
I participate at NMUN because I am convinced that negotiating as a country's delegate is a considerable better chance of seriously getting to know to the UN system, its proceedings and debated topics and, of course, certain countries' positions than only reading about all this in newspapers or "for fun". Furthermore I hope that the ideas developed by me and all my fellow delegates will be heard through the voice of this simulation. It is not only the future of professional diplomats but also, and perhaps even more, our future (nearly 45% of the world's population are younger than 25). Hopefully we will become better citizens of the world by trying to understand and defend points of view that sometimes will be very different from that one we are used to.
Committee: GA 1st Committee - Disarmament and International Security
I find my committee topics interesting because our world currently faces more than 130 armed conflicts which are all addressed by these committees topics, either for reasons (conflict minerals), means (arms sales), or strategies (privatization of war) that are obstacles to life in peace.
Niclas Huck (Head Delegate)
21 years old, 4th Semester AIS
Interests: Jogging, Snowboarding, Music, French Horn & Guitar, Literature, Politics, having a good time with my friends
I participate at NMUN because for most non-politicians and non-diplomats, the UN is only an abstract organization which does not seem to have a relevant influence on us. But the UN and its committees deal with various tasks of utmost importance, such as climate change and nuclear disarmament. These issues do highly affect the future of mankind. By participating at NMUN, we gain a valuable insight in the UN’s work and experience interesting debates with delegates from all over the world. As a plus, we broaden our and our business school’s horizon at an international platform. That is a great combination!
Committee: International Atomic Energy Agency
I find my committee topics interesting because the IAEA furthers non-military use of nuclear technologies and their work is highly related to the current developments in Iran – that will be a controversial discussion!
Ruhiye Keskin
22 years old, 6th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics
Interests: Political philosophy, culture (literature, good dining, theatre, different nations), economic topics
I participate at NMUN for several reasons: Strengthen my argumentative abilities, participate in a multicultural environment, work in a team, form a position about political and economic topics and make use of my theoretic background (economics & philosophy!)
Committee: GA 1st Committee - Disarmament and International Security
I find my committee topics interesting because they are of major public interest. The decisions taken on these themes will have a huge impact on every human beings' daily life!
Michael Kirmes
23 years old, 6th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics
Interests: Economics, Political Theory, Institutional Design, discussing and arguing, reading, webdesign, movies
I participate at NMUN because I am looking forward to a fun group experience together with friends where I will also have a unique opportunity to experience practical politics and learn a lot about another country. Also, I really enjoy taking part in all the organizational issues that take place beforehand in order to get ten people currently distributed over the whole world to New York.
Committee: GA 2nd Committee - Economic and Financial
I find my committee topics interesting because they all concern development countries, and Sri Lanka is one of them.
Christian König genannt Kersting
21 years old, 4th Semester International Business Administration
Interests: Photography, debating, travelling, IT-projects
I participate at NMUN because I think it is a great chance to familiarize myself with procedures of the United Nations Organization, broaden my international and intercultural horizon and to be part of one of the most interesting student initiatives at the Frankfurt School. Of course, forming and organizing a new delegation for the National Model United Nations in New York City is really challenging and means a lot of work, but I am sure simulating the UN together with nearly 4000 students from all over the world will be worth it.
Committee: GA 2nd Committee - Economic and Financial
I find my committee topics interesting because I think the current financial crisis and its consequences for developing countries will be a topic in the next years.
Isabel Mancuso
20 years old, 6th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics
Interests: Languages and foreign cultures, traveling, literature and philosophy
I participate at NMUN because I am very interested in foreign relations, and I think they are extremely important. I have always wanted to experience the United Nations’ work “first hand” – it’s great that I now have the chance to actually participate in this simulation. I am sure this will be a very valuable experience.
Committee: General Assembly Plenary
I find my committee topics interesting because I think the Millennium Development Goals concern us all (at least they should). I find it very interesting to see what has actually happened in the last 10 years- and what still needs to be done. Terrorism and Global Warming are also two very pressing and important issues of our current times.
Juliane Poschmann
22 years old, 4th Semester BIS @ Commerzbank AG
Interests: traveling, sports, reading
I participate at NMUN because I want to enhance my oratory skills and get to know students from all over the world. Especially I want to get an idea of the UN and the aims they follow.
Committee: GA 3rd Committee - Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian
I find my committee topics interesting because it faces everybody in the world, particularly our and the following generations. E.g. especially for Sri Lanka it´s very important to become a part of a global education system to assure that also children in a Third World country receive a minimum standard schooling.
Corinna Schauerte
22 years old, 6th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics
Interests: foreign cultures, international relationships and travelling
I participate at NMUN because I want to get an insight in the work of the UN and put myself in the position of a country I have not deal with it before. Thus I can get an understanding of the situation of other countries and cultures. I think it would be very interesting to see the problems from a different perspective, debate with participants of all over the world, exchange opinions with international students and try to find a solution with which everyone could be satisfied.
Committee: General Assembly Plenary
I find my committee topics interesting because they comprehend the most important actual problems.
Bao-Y Van Cong
20 years old, 2nd Semester AIS @ Postbank
Interests: Travelling, debating, cooking, English
I participate at NMUN because I really enjoyed Model United Nations in Germany the last three times. As a consequence I am very eager to face a new challenge to debate in English and advocate a new country at the place where the “real” diplomats work.
Committee: GA 3rd Committee - Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian
I find my committee topics interesting because they affect not only Sri Lanka in various ways, but if we can establish a minimum of an education standard, that would be a big change for the world to a better world. And as for the topic of Technology, I, as a delegate of Sri Lanka, can ask for support, whereas my other committee topic will demand a high rate of diplomacy to defend Sri Lanka’s actions in the past. Defending a popular opinion is very easy, but rethinking the issue from another starting point is going to be more challenging and therefore the most interesting part.
